Bathrobe Size and Fabric Weight Confusion

Does Size Matter?

Bathrobes are available in so many styles and colors to accommodate a variety of needs and tastes. However, when it comes to the size, with some manufacturers, the only option is a four letter word:

  • OSFM - One Size Fits Most - or
  • OSFA - One Size Fits All

One may be over six feet tall or short and petite, and those manufacturers are expecting that you will be satisfied fitting into the same bathrobe! Some companies even offer full length styles in only one size. How could that possibly fit everyone?

If the robe does not fit properly, you may not experience the proper comfort and functionality it has to offer.

When buying a bathrobe, correct size is the most important feature. For example, a full length bathrobe for a size Petite/Small should be about 10 inches shorter than a full length bathrobe for a size XXL.

Along with the length, the circumference of the bathrobe should also change as the size changes, making it wider for bigger sizes. The sleeve length and arm length should be longer for the bigger sizes and even the hood size should change for each size.

Every one of our robes at The Bathrobe Collection® is available in a variety of sizes and colors. Detailed sizing charts for the specific model bathrobe are featured in tabs on each product page of our website.

If you are not certain which size to order, we are available to help. In some cases, we will even verify the size with our manufacturer for you.

So do not forget…Size matters!

Fabric Weight Deception

Most bathrobes sold in the US domestic market are manufactured in Turkey, India, China, Pakistan, and other countries where the producers use the metric system to determine the fabric weight.

A mid-weight bathrobe fabric is approximately 420 grams per square meter. This is very clear and straight forward.

Things get complicated when these bathrobes are shipped to the US, when the measurements must be changed to ounces per square yard. In this measurement conversion, one ounce equals 28.5 grams, and one yard equals 0.914 meters.

A lot of unscrupulous sellers will specify that their fabric weight is 15 ounces,  which really means 15 ounces per square meter, instead of giving the more correct ounces per square yardage, such as 12 ounces per square yard.

Why is this wrong? Because as the customer, you don’t know if it is 15 ounces per square meter (light weight) or 15 ounces per square yard (luxurious and thick).

That’s why, as a conscientious customer, you should only buy from sellers that indicate the weight of the fabric in ounces per square yard.

At The Bathrobe Collection®, we will never try to confuse you with incorrect fabric weights. All of our product listings show the ounces per square yard of the fabrics we use.
